Ship Equipment

Ship equipment includes engines, ship systems, ship weapons and other items that are installed on a ship.

Upgrading your ship is a popular way to extend the use case of an aging ship or just to dial it in to what your crew prefers. Often captains and crew will upgrade a ship several times before moving onto a more capable hull.

When pricing equipment you must make a calculation based on the size of the equipment you’re purchasing. All prices includes a core charge, you must trade in your old part for the new one.

(Note that “Ship Systems” are exempt from this price increase by engine size, unless otherwise stated in the Ship Systems.)

x1
Extra Small (XS)
Small (S)

x2
Medium (M)

x3
Large (L)

x5
Extra Large (XL)

Prices and availability may change at your guide’s discretion, especially in Outer Asteria. When trading in a already upgraded equipment regain half of the purchased price.

Example: Captain Ortean wants to upgrade her ship’s engine. If her ship was a PackRat she would pay the listed price of the engine, let’s use the ST-009 in our example. This costs 35,000 for a Small or Extra Small ship. If however she had a Valkyre (a medium ship) instead she would need to pay double the original cost of 35,000. This makes the purchase price for upgrading her Valkyre to a ST-009 70,000. If Captain Ortean wanted to upgrade later she would receive 35,000 off the next upgrade from trading in the ST-009 from her Valkyre (M) or 17,500 from the PackRat’s (S) ST-009.

Systems

Purchasing new systems is a great way to expand the capability and functionality of your ship. You must have the amount of open system slots to install one. Systems may be toggled on or off. Selling a used system is a easy way to free up slots on your ship. Usually you can get half of what was paid for the system.

Manufacturer: Custom
Model: SmugLug
System Slots: 1-999
Price: 20,000 per slot
Effect: Converts system slots into cargo space designed to smuggle. Complete façade with blinking lights and levers that make something whirr.

Very popular among smugglers and fairly expensive for the size. This is custom made and tailored to look like most other systems. Though they don’t provide the effects of those systems they are usually enough to fool someone into thinking you have a normal system installed.

“Botzz is committed to bringing you the best technology at affordable prices, without breaching the true AI agreement.”

Requires 1 system slot for every 2 guns, must have one empty gunner station for every 6 guns used. 3 versions are available for purchase and will increase the accuracy/damage for your ship’s weapons. Prices are as follows 50k, 500k, 5M. You must purchase an APG for every 2 guns used.

For every gun fired at desired target play one card from the top of the guide’s deck. Different versions will yield better accuracy or damage. V1 will give the value of the card per shot, v2 is 1.5x the value of the card rounded down, v3 is 2.0x the value of the card.

If the empty gunner station AGP is assigned to is damaged AGP will not fire at all, once patched or repaired AGP will begin functioning normally again.

Ship Weapons

Ship weapons are broken into categories by weapon type. Each weapon type will have strengths and weaknesses as well as ranges.

When making a play for your ship’s weapons. Accuracy will be calculated by your play with technique plus any accuracy bonuses. Where as damage will be calculated with the weapon’s damage bonuses. To clarify you will play one time and use that play plus two sets of different bonuses, one for accuracy, one for damage. If you’re firing your weapon at a target that isn’t within the optimal range, your play will be effected for both accuracy and damage.

Let’s try this in an example: Let’s say Rosco jumps into a gunner position on your ship and takes command of a very expensive laser, it has +9 accuracy and +3 damage. We’ll say Rosco plays an ace of hearts, making his play a total of 15. Since the target is close he will get to use his full play. When calculating to hit the target you will add the +9 and the other pilot will need to try and dodge 24. The damage will be calculated with a +3, so in the event that Rosco’s shot hits. It will be 18 damage worth.
Let’s change this example a little, what if the target was distant instead of close? We would divide his play by two first before adding or subtracting any of the weapon’s bonuses, both for damage and accuracy.

Laser Weapons

Laser weapons are accurate and instant, extremely powerful at close ranges as these weapons are further from their target they become less concentrated and often provide your enemy with a lightshow through the window instead of a deadly blow.

When shooting another ship or target with Laser weapons these will hit on the same turn they are fired, the other pilot still gets to dodge but the major benefits are instant damage and close range brawling, along with high damage. If you’re firing at any other range than short your play is cut in half for each range past short and round down. Simply put the concentrated light of the laser dissipates quickly with range.

Example: Captain Towlin takes control of one of the gunner stations on his AZ-544477 and fires the lasers at a short range target, the pilot tries to dodge but is unable to. Towlin’s shot deals full damage of his play plus the weapon’s bonus. If on the other hand he was firing at a ship at medium range his play would add the bonuses first then divide by two and round down. The longest possible range he could shoot them is long range, which works much the same way, add any bonuses first and divide by 4, round down to the nearest whole number that would be his play.

Projectile Weapons

Projectile Weapons are best used at a intermediate range, though they’re still deadly at any range. Most Projectile Weapons are equipped with a correction charge, a short burst that fires out to correct the angle of it’s attack, because this goes off a computer generated optimal position plus a bit of random spin, this can make dodging projectiles at any range rather difficult. When viewed from a distance this appears as small circular lights flickering followed by another on your target if it hits.

To fire a projectile weapon you may fire at any range that isn’t out of range and still achieve somewhat optimal results. That being said, projectile weapons prefer to be used at medium range which is known as “distant”. If you fire at a target that is at close or far ranges you will need to divide your play by two (round down to the nearest whole number) for each fired weapon. On average, projectile weapons do less damage than lasers but are able to hit more effectively at all ranges.

Example: Alva sits down at the gunnery station on her ship that is equipped with projectile weapons. There is one target at every range, close, distant and far. She fires one shot at all three with three different weapons. For the sake of simplicity we’ll say she played three aces, one for each shot. Both the close and far shot would need to be divided by two and rounded down to the nearest number, making her play 7. Where as the ace for her distant shot would be the full amount of 15.

Self Propelled Weapons

Self Propelled Weapons or SPWs for short are perfect for any range, these weapons are slower than others, as a result it can take a while for an SPW to reach it’s target. For some strange reason SPWs are still commonly referred to as “Missiles” it was all started by humans, for some reason the earthlings still could not drop that slang term even centuries later, it has unfortunately become an epidemic and now many races say the term interchangeably. SPWs or “Missiles” have their own propulsion device and range from light weight and maneuverable, to massive and slow, the latter of which have gained the much more suitable term; “Torpedo” or “torp” for short.
